Paediatric Ophthalmology, Strabismus (Squints), Neuro-Ophthalmology, Ocular Ultrasonography, Cataract and Refractive Surgery

Mr Georgios Laspias has graduated in medicine from University of Athens.

He did post graduated training in Ophthalmology in “Ophthalmiatrion Eye Hospital” of Athens, Greece followed by higher specialist training in Ocular Ultrasonography. He has been among the first Greek Ophthalmologists who have obtained the official license from Health Ministry in order to perform ultrasound diagnosis of eye diseases including different varieties of glaucoma, swollen optic nerves and eye cancers.

After the acquisition of “Greek Specialty Title in Ophthalmology”, he has also been awarded the “European Diploma of Ophthalmology”, following successful written and oral examinations in Paris, France.

He has obtained his doctorate (PhD) in the Medical Sciences of National and Kapodistriako University of Athens, Greece with grade ‘excellent’, after the successful accomplishment and defense of his thesis related with the pathophysiology of cataract in accordance with diseases such as diabetes and pseudo-exfoliation syndrome.

He gained further subspecialist training in the fields of “Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus” as a fellow at Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle Upon Tyne, United Kingdom. He had the chance to be under the supervision of clinical director Mr M.P Clarke who is one of the pioneers and most well known paediatric ophthalmologists in the United Kingdom. This fellowship is recognized by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists for doctors who wish to have a higher subspecialty training in the field of Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus with a view to practicing at consultant level in these sub-specialities.

Mr Laspias is experienced in the proper management and treatment of young patients from infancy till puberty with a variety of eye problems such as: strabismus and amblyopia, anterior segment disease (particularly glaucoma and cataract), uveitis, neuroophthalmology, genetic disorders, neurodevelopmental aspects of visual impairment in children, retinal disorders including retinopathy of prematurity.
Furthermore, he examines adult patients with squint and neuro-ophthalmic problems. In the field of neuro-ophthalmology he establishes the cause and provides treatment for many unexplained visual or eye problems related to nerves of the eye and brain.
